A blend of black Fredonia grapes and cherries, our fortified port wine is sweet and rich, intense with red fruit and hints of pineapple and citrus. Centuries ago a trade war between England and France severed the supply of French clarets to British consumers, and brokers turned to Portugal to supply the demand for wine. Fortifying with brandy or grain alcohol helped it travel better by sea and masked the supposed inferior quality of the Portuguese reds - much to the delight of its new patrons!
